Digitalization does not stop at the traditional timber industry. An impressive example of this is the successful collaboration between TimberTec and DABG, which has set new standards in efficiency and transparency through the use of a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. DABG specializes in the timber trade in Africa and the Middle East.

DABG is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and its warehouse is located in Rijeka, Croatia.

DABG obtains the required timber from its Austrian sister company, the HS Timber Group, which has sawmills in Austria, Germany and Romania.

The initial situation

In the fall of 2023, the first discussions between TimberTec and DABG to implement a modern ERP system began. TimberTec, known for its innovative solutions in the timber industry, was selected due to its successful implementations at DABG's sister company, HS Timber Group.

The goal was clear: a seamless transition to a new, more efficient system that meets the special requirements of the timber trade.

The start of the project: thorough preparation

The first kick-off meeting took place at TimberTec's company headquarters in Eutin. Here, the specialists from TimberTec met with the responsible persons and "key users" from DABG, Benjamin Golob and Michael Jausovec. At this meeting, the needs and objectives of the project were discussed in detail.

"We wanted to transfer the existing ERP system one-to-one into the new TimberTec system, but with a few additional features to further optimize our processes."

The challenge: Tailor-made solutions for the timber trade

A central goal of the project was the integration of handheld scanners (Intrascan) in DABG's warehouse in Rijeka, Croatia. These should ensure better warehouse control and more efficient processes.

"With the handheld scanners, we have finally found a solution that allows us to monitor stock levels in real time and optimize processes. This not only saves us time, but also costs and reduces damage."

Michael Jausovec, Purchasing Manager, DABG

However, the implementation of the scanners was only part of the adjustments. Another important feature was the mapping of orders by the centimeter, which was not possible before. In addition, invoicing, which was previously done manually in Excel, was fully automated.

Step by step to success

After the solutions were presented and intensively tested, users were trained on site. Further adjustments were made and final requests were taken into account. This ensured that everything worked smoothly in day-to-day business.

By February 2024, purchasing, warehouse management and sales were "live" and all systems were running smoothly. After three months of fine-tuning, the project was finally completed successfully in May.

Focus on efficiency and transparency

The introduction of TiCom ERP brought DABG numerous benefits. The new processes have not only increased efficiency, but also improved transparency. Every order, from centimeters to pallets, is seamlessly integrated into the system. The scanner technology in the warehouse makes it possible to monitor warehouse movements in real time and avoid unnecessary movements. This leads to less damage and therefore lower costs.

A successful project for the future of the timber trade

The successful collaboration between DABG and TimberTec illustrates how digitalization can lead to efficient and improved processes in the timber trade. The joint dialog and on-site discussions proved to be the key to successfully implementing the project.

"The visit to the warehouse in Rijeka was important in order to understand internal processes and adapt the solution optimally to DABG's requirements."
